When Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper came to the US for a meeting with Obama this is what he saw. The protest denounces the roles of the Canadian and US governments in the most environmentally destructive project on earth, as producer and importer of oil from tar sands, respectively.
The exploration of tar sands results in the complete destruction of vast natural areas, leaving behind a track of polluted water, land and air. Harper and Obama claim that pollution problems can be solved through technological advances but until now the promise of Carbon Capture and Storage (that we can safely use fossil fuels) is yet to be delivered.
